Affirmative Action

Affirmative Action

Certain laws require federal contractors, subcontractors and others doing business with the federal government to not discriminate in employment matters and, in some cases,to take affirmative action in favor of persons in various protected classes, specifically minorities, women, and persons with disabilities, veterans with disabilities and Vietnam-era veterans. These laws are: Presidential Executive Order 11,246, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974. Affirmative Action may also be required of employers found to have violated the discrimination laws.
